description The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of American “basketball culture” on the representations of young French readers and players by analyzing the front covers of Maxi Basket, the magazine that has dominated the sports press since 1982. The authors contend that the changes observed are indicative of the extent to which Americanization has influenced French society and demonstrate most clearly that the gradual introduction of American basketball is an integral part of the post-modern economic transition that favoured the blurring of the boundaries between economic and cultural forces.
