| Summary: | Théodore Jouffroy’s editorial work was exclusively devoted to the introduction and translation of Scottish philosophers: Dugald Stewart’s Outlines of Moral Philosophy, and Thomas Reid’s Complete Works. Our study attempts to determine the meaning of these editions, which Jouffroy did not conceive as a contribution to the history of philosophy, but rather as a reflection on the nature and organisation of philosophical sciences. In the first section of this paper I describe the complex editorial context in which these editions were developed. In the second part, I show, mainly on the basis of the preface to Thomas Reid’s Complete Works, how the relationship between Jouffroy and Victor Cousin evolved. |
