description The article deals with the analysis of revolutionary moods in the seminary environment in the time of the first Russian revolution. The author presents materials from the hectographed journal “Comrade” (“Tovarishch”), published by students of the Vologda Theological Seminary in early 1907 and practically unknown to church historians. The introductory article tells about the reasons and results of the revolutionary movement in Russian Orthodox seminaries during the first Russian revolution, about the moods of seminarians, and also explains why the emergence of a significant number of supporters of revolutionary changes among seminarians must be considered as a “pathological pattern” of the time. A characteristic feature of the beginning of the 20th century, admittedly, was the appearance in the seminary environment of two opposing groups: one included people who sought to dedicate their lives to the Church, while members of another group were supporters of revolutionary changes, eager to have radical shift in the political system of Russia. The publication of the journal “Comrade” (“Tovarishch”) is provided with comments that allow a better understanding of the materials intended for seminarians who were opposed to the autocratic state.
