Summary:The decision to involve a specialist in criminal proceedings is based on criminalistic and procedural aspects. In the event when the court cannot solve some tasks without the use of special knowledge, a specialist is involved in criminal proceedings. The purpose of this publication is to systematize the tasks solved by a specialist during the investigation. Methods: analysis, comparativelegal, generalization. Results: the article highlights the grounds for involving a specialist to participate in criminal proceedings, lists the main tasks solved by a specialist, analyzes the criteria for selecting a specialist, his/her role in ensuring the objectivity and reliability of evidence, as well as legal and methodological aspects of his/her participation in criminal proceedings.
