Repair of the Knee Medial Collateral Ligament Stener-Like Lesion: Utilizing the Regenerative Characteristics of Periosteal Cambium Layer

The medial collateral ligament is the most common knee ligament to be injured. Although mostly treated nonoperatively, a distal tear of the ligament is a clear indication for surgery. High failure rates with unreliable fixation methods have largely made knee surgeons reluctant to perform ligament re...

description The medial collateral ligament is the most common knee ligament to be injured. Although mostly treated nonoperatively, a distal tear of the ligament is a clear indication for surgery. High failure rates with unreliable fixation methods have largely made knee surgeons reluctant to perform ligament repairs. Here, we propose a repair technique that uses the periosteal cambium layer to achieve surface contact healing, instead of point contact fixation, and combine mechanical fixation with regenerative enhancement.
