| Summary: | Mapping the demographic densities of Brazilian municipalities presents considerable difficulties because of the huge differences between the very low figures for outlying regions, particularly in Amazonia, and the very high figures for the major coastal cities. Using the different scales of statistical collection used by the IBGE, as well as the different discretisation methods available in the two software packages Philcarto and Cartes et Données, makes it possible to examine the contrasting results and attempt to choose the most appropriate methods. |
