Summary:The paper studies best practices for refereeal by a trans-disciplinary approach. Jewish Slander laws, governing best practices for communications with potentially adverse consequences, has developed a checklist to use prior to any such communication. We review the checklist and show its applicability to academic refereeal. The paper closes with four actual case studies of refereeal, representing typical situations that occur.
