Summary:Northwestern Sonora contains late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic rocks and structural elements crucial for understanding the paleogeography and tectonic history of the region. Most geologic maps and field investigations typically terminate at the international political borders. Yet the solutions to many relevant geologic problems need close integration of findings from both the United States and adjacent Mexico. Geologic investigation benefits from strong international scientific collaboration.
