description | Delivered politically and economically to themselves for several centuries, the Saharan territories of the Algerian South depended on local traditional powers made up of religious and notables until the arrival of French colonization where the beginnings of a new territorial organization were posed. This was a major step in their political and economic integration. But we must wait for Algeria’s independence to see the emergence of a multidimensional territorial dynamics (political, economic and social). The Algerian state reinvests these territories for strategic and geopolitical reasons. It quickly became the main actor in development, development and strengthening its political presence. The modernization of political organizations through the central state has failed to establish a model of modern governance at the local level that is based on «democratic» values. Thus, these territories are experiencing a crisis of governance at a time when the traditional bodies have been weakened and rejected. |
