description Delia platura species is a small pest causes enormous damage and losses in a wide range of crops. An identification study was conducted through molecular characterization and sequencing to distinguish the species of Delia genus, which attack cucumber seedlings in greenhouses. The study was carried out in Al-Gharraf region in Dhi Qar province, Southern Iraq, during the spring and Autumn seasons. In the present study, mtCOI was amplified for molecular identification approaches to confirm the morphology characterization. Two collected specimens were sequenced using the Sanger approach.  The BioEdit and MEGA software were used for phylogenetic analysis. The results of pairwise sequence and genetic analysis showed that there was 99.26% match with the Delia platura species registered in the database GenBank. The identified species with accession number PV114986.1 showed high similarity with species isolated from the Chinese (KP901268.1) and Norway (MG673907.1). The result of traps reported that the yellow-colored traps recorded 2.13 adults/trap during 15 days. This trap was significantly more attractive than other colored traps (white, green, and red). However, white colored traps attracted 0.60 adults/trap with the same period above, while the green and red colored traps did not catch any insects.
