description December 4, 2017 will mark the 110th birth anniversary of Vladimir Lvovich Wagin (1907–1984). He was an outstanding researcher of marine fauna and headed the Department of Invertebrate Zoology of Kazan State University (1957–1977). He was the student of V.A. Dogiel and the bright representative of his Leningrad zoological school. Parasitic animals were the main objects of his investigations. His works were devoted to the systematics of parasitic crustaceans and worms (17 publications), their comparative morphology (20) and embryology (16), phylogenetic biogeography (13), and particular and general aspects of parasitology (50). The total volume of his 63 publications is about 48 published sheets. Among the objects of his research, marine (72% of the publications), and, to a lesser extent, freshwater (28%) forms were dominant. He described 23 new taxa of ascothoracids and myzostomids from species to genera, families, order and type. On the basis of the obtained data, a monograph on the biology of the order Ascothoracida, an important group for understanding the phylogeny of crustaceans, was published. His 30 publications on theoretical problems have a special importance. They are devoted to the general problems of morphological and ecological evolution of parasites, embryonic adaptations to the parasitic mode of life, parasite-host relations, changes in the reproductive adaptations of adult parasites by “deepening” of their parasitism, as well as to analysis of phylogenetic aspects of zoo- and paleogeography of parasites. The list of V.L. Wagin's publications on parasitology is presented.
