This can be explained in particular by the general education policy pursued by the Belgian authorities in their colony (1885-1960). Through their presence on university campuses and their mobilisation in the Belgian public and media spaces, these students not only became actors in the decolonisation of the Congo, but they also familiarised the people of Brussels with the existence of sub-Saharan communities in the Belgian capital. |
