description From the beginning of the 20th century, the scientific literature on Morocco has described the relations between children and adults among artisans in terms of exploitation. While founded on certain undeniable realities, many of these analyses provide an overly biased view: by excluding certain aspects of the apprentice relationship, they describe a dramatic and unacceptable situation, in which adult activities are systematically opposed to those of children. Taking copper workers in Fez as an example, this article aims to temper this idea by considering two co-existing learning situations: on the one hand, a form of transmission founded upon the acquisition of complex know-how deriving from an ethno-theory of learning that stretches beyond the bounds of the Moroccan craft industry, and on the other hand, the learning of factory worker-like procedures that make use of easily acquired know-how and that shed light on recent socioeconomic transformations.
