| Summary: | Optically transparent, hydrophilic, porous titania and Zn-doped titania thin films were prepared by the sol–gel technique, using the non-ionic amphiphilic block copolymer Pluronic P123 as the template. The structure and optical properties of these films were characterized using SEM, XRD, UV-vis spectroscopy and BET surface area determinations. It was found that the addition of zinc to TiO 2 increased its surface acidity and hydrophilicity, and hence the catalytic activity of mesoporous TiO 2 /ZnO (1–10 atom %) films in the decomposition of the xantene dye, Rhodamine B. |
