| description | Background:
Adolescent is the period where the development of intellectual, physical, social, emotional, and all other capacities are at their peak. To deal with the tremendous development, adolescents need certain skills to accommodate with the society. Life skills may fill the gap and support in the all-round development of adolescents.
Aims:
The present study is designed to find the effectiveness of life skill training on emotional regulation among adolescents.
Settings and Design:
A Quantitative approach experimental design was adopted. The study was conducted at randomly selected government higher secondary schools.
Materials and Methods:
Seventy adolescents aged 15–18 years were selected randomly from the higher secondary schools. Emotional regulation was measured by adolescents’ emotional regulation strategies questionnaire. Life skill training intervention was given to only the experimental group by five 60 min sessions on alternative days.
Statistical Analysis Used:
Descriptive and inferential statistics were used.
Results:
The finding reveals that, in the experimental group, the pretest mean, standard deviation (SD) was 65.14 ± 5.58 and the posttest the mean, SD was 79.37 ± 5.22 (t = 13.96; P = <0.001) which indicates the life skill training program was effective in improving emotional regulation among adolescents. In the control group, the pretest mean, SD was 66.37 ± 5.58 and the posttest the mean, SD was 66.65 ± 7.45 (t = 0.971; P = 0.338), which shows that it is not significant in improving emotional regulation in control group.
Conclusion:
The life skill training was effective in improving emotional regulation and recommended to implement in the school-based curriculum for the adolescents. |
