TESTING OF APRICOT GENOTYPES FOR THE REQUIREMENT OF COLD EXPOSURE (ENDODORMANCY) DURING THE VEGETATIVE BREAK [TESTOVÁNÍ GENOTYPŮ MERUNĚK NA POŽADAVEK EXPOZICE CHLADU (ENDODORMANCE) V DOBĚ VEGETAČNÍHO KLIDU]

Description
Summary:Temperate fruit species need to accumulate a certain amount of cold, which is specific to the cultivar, to complete their life cycle during vegetative break (dormancy). This cold exposure can be evaluated as the accumulation of chill hours (CH) with temperatures between 0 and 7.2 °C. During endodormancy, physiological processes in fruit trees temporarily stop or are limited. In the first phase, growth is stopped by internal factors and exposure to cold during a certain period is necessary to restore growth capacity (endodormancy), in the second phase, growth is stopped due to unsuitable weather conditions, buds require exposure to high temperatures to restore bud growth and start sprouting (exodormancy). A total of 20 genotypes (cultivars and hybrids) of apricots (Prunus armeniaca L.) were tested in a climate-controlled chamber from 2023 to 2025 for the required length of cold exposure. Results confirmed different requirements for the cold length period. A lower requirement for the length of the cold period (endodormancy) was evaluated for the varieties ‘Darina’, ‘Harcot’ and ‘Harogem’ with the accumulation of 500–750 CH. On the contrary, for the varieties ‘Bergeron’, ‘Candela’, ‘Leskora’, ‘Marlen’, ‘Orangered’, ‘Pinkcot’, ‘Sophinka, ‘Velkopavlovická’ and hybrid 00-010 a higher demand with the accumulation of 1000–1500 CH was recorded.
