Description
Summary:The study aims to investigate how mathematics educators in the municipality of Vitória da Conquista, Bahia, develop the content related to Quantities and Measurements in classes for Young, Adult, and Elderly Education (YAEE) in rural education. The methodology adopted was a qualitative approach, in which four semi-structured interviews were conducted with mathematics educators teaching in YAEE rural classes to produce the data. The results show that educators, based on their experiences, strive to develop teaching practices that meet the needs and expectations of their students. When addressing the thematic unit of Quantities and Measurements, they indicated that it is possible to connect scientific knowledge with socially produced empirical knowledge. These results lead us to rethink the pedagogical practices developed in rural schools, especially in YAEE classes, as they highlight the need for teaching that goes beyond scientific knowledge.
