| description | The settlements for sale of sites were a modality of access to housing oriented to the working class, located generally since the end of the 19th century on the outskirts of Santiago.T hus, this article researches two cases: the Germania and Atacama poblaciones, wondering about their formation and the difficulties in accessing services, producing a greater demand for urbanization from their neighbors, which had to adapt to a changing political and legal framework, colliding with the apathy and budgetary shortcomings of the authorities. The purchase of sites was strong in San Miguel, a rural commune located in the south of Santiago and one of the densest suburbs in that area. The formation of the poblaciones Germania and Atacama was driven by the proximity of the Gran Avenida, the primary artery of the municipalities of San Miguel and La Cisterna. The research proposes the study around a new urban subject, long-term site buyers, who built the poblaciones, becoming representative cases of an ascending way of inhabiting the periphery in the first half of the 20th century. |
