Description
Summary:Youth are often envisioned as providing hope for a better future. However, many young people face challenges and are disconnected from economic and political decision-making. Empowering youth could actively support and encourage their participation in these processes. Capacity building and skill development have the potential to achieve this goal. Beyond formal education, alternative approaches like serious games show promising results in helping develop crucial skills and empower youth. Based in Bogor, Indonesia, this study investigates the perceived impacts of serious games on skill development and capacity building through an empowerment lens. Serious games focusing on political-environmental and work-related skills were assessed using a mixed-method approach. Quantitative data were collected through surveys, while qualitative data came from Focus Group Discussions. Key results suggest serious games help foster work-related and political-environmental skills among youth, preparing them for labour market demands and encouraging greater political participation, particularly regarding environmental issues.
