Summary:Mining regulatory reform in Cameroon has encouraged the involvement of mining companies in semi-mechanised artisanal mining, and the state has adopted a form of indirect governance of security in extractive territories. This article analyzes the role of local community representatives in regulating access to mining concessions and relations between gold miners and mining companies. It shows that these local intermediaries participate in the construction of social order in mining sites and collaborate with mining companies in carrying out social projets for local community.
