| description | Based upon a corpus of historical journals (Revue historique de la Révolution française, Annales historiques de la Révolution française, La Révolution française…), this article aims at analyzing the effects of World War I on the field of French revolutionary studies from 1918 to 1932. In spite of a context of economic and publishing crisis, together with a decrease in the number of specialists, this period however witnessed a profound renewal of the historiographical issues, especially in the domain of economic and social history. This article deals with the contradictions of the academic community, the tensions over the various forms and institutions of its politico-socio-economic environment (journals, learned societies, professors). Through quantitative analysis, we measure the extent of the material constraints which fostered a dynamic of internationalization and reunification of the professional historians, eventually giving birth to the still-existing Annales historiques de la Révolution française. |
