We deal with the correlation Si P, Q (If P, Q). But we treat it by a way which exactly is neither syntactic nor semantic. Thus we prefer to speak of correlation but not subordination, for both reasons. The first one is that some Si P concessive or echoic do not (only) convey the hypothetic/condition...

description We deal with the correlation Si P, Q (If P, Q). But we treat it by a way which exactly is neither syntactic nor semantic. Thus we prefer to speak of correlation but not subordination, for both reasons. The first one is that some Si P concessive or echoic do not (only) convey the hypothetic/conditional meaning. The second reason, linked to the previous one, is that these Si, P have a macrosyntactic functioning and thus a textual function which overstep the scope of the sentence and its ‘subordination.’ We will analyze the questions of connection(s) and range(s), or their span, with the aim of showing that a certain number of Si P not only act at the macrosyntactic level as ‘discursive frame openers’, but as topics too, that is to say as an echo of the left context. In these cases of ‘double range’ the distinction between connectors, ‘upstream’ directed, and adverbial phrases, ‘downstream’ directed, seems less relevant...
