Description
Summary:Studying sustainability is essential to mitigate human impact on natural resources. Agrotourism emerges as an alternative that allows taking advantage of the landscape, culture, and environmental potential of a region. This study analyzes four agricultural production systems (SP) in the municipalities of Abrego, Ocaña, and La Playa de Belén, with agrotourism potential, applying the (MESMIS) methodology, assessing the economic (DE), social (DS), and environmental (DA) dimensions, evaluating the properties of adaptability, reliability, stability, self-reliance, equity, resilience, and productivity, using 18 aspects (6 for DE; 5 for DA; and 7 for DS) and 32 indicators prioritized with producers. The measurement of the aspects yielded an average overall sustainability index (GSI) of 3.88 for the SPs, complying in all three dimensions (values ≥ 3.0). Likewise, there are areas for improvement in DE, such as the level of self-financing, sales diversity, and compliance with health regulations for product sales. These factors limit the comprehensive development of SPs and impede product innovation for entering new markets.
