Summary:Abstract: English for specific purposes has become increasingly important in higher education, particularly in Algerian higher schools. This study aims to assess the challenges associated with teaching ESP in Algerian higher education institutions. Algeria's education system struggles to balance the integration of global advancements and competencies with the need to remain relevant to local demands. A quantitative approach was employed, using surveys and interviews to explore the role of ESP teacher in Algerian engineering schools. The study assesses the difficulties encountered by the ESP teacher in order to improve the good implementation of ESP in higher schools. The survey was conducted at ESSA - Tlemcen, Algeria, and data collected from teacher interviews was analyzed to identify the specific challenges of teaching ESP in the Algerian context.  Keywords: Algeria, Challenges, engineering, English for Specific Purposes, higher education.
