Description
Summary:This paper draws on the theory of recognition proposed by Honneth (2011) to highlight the role of social criticism in the processes of work resignification based on the intersubjective agreements of social actors, which interprets the place of consented self-exploitation or the new voluntary servitude. In the empirical comparison, two recent case studies were carried out between 2018 and 2023. The first focuses on women founders and successors of family businesses, while the second examines the return to work in the post-covid-19 period. By contrasting the acceptance of both the social conditions of production and reproduction, and their discursive legitimisation embodied in a set of normative and socio-cognitive devices by social actors, a critical sociology of work on emancipation through and in work is advanced.
