Although The Journals' different pieces and their arrangement have been attentively studied by scholars, critics often neglected the individual authors whose anonymous or apocryphal pieces have been collected by L'Estoile. Educated and coming from a legal background, these authors dealt with the most burning actuality of the civil wars. The study of their identity contributes to the analysis of parliamentarian dissidence and sheds new light on the practice of pamphleteering in the legal circles of the second half of the sixteenth century. The study aims to reevaluate this often less known, yet influential, dissident discourse. |
