| description | The world’s Jewry has been, and continues to be, dispersed globally, as a case of a transnational diaspora in a multinational context. The exposure of Jews to different local environments and the contingencies of permanently changing spatial dimensions deeply affected the intensity and the quality of interactions between Jews and their non-Jewish neighbors. The emerging synthesis of these different components creates a whole and complex profile of contemporary Jewry. This study of contemporary Jewish populations worldwide explores nine different concepts of spaces, some figurative and some real: disciplinary, definitional, intercontinental, migratory, developmental, civilizational, interactive, local, and of identity. |
