description During the Franco regime, Spain was completely transformed, muzzled by a relentless censorship that stagnated all critical and free initiative. This long period of obscurantism was a necessary resource for the regime to ensure a tight control over the national conscience. This article aims to reconstruct the complicated Spanish receptive trajectory of the work of Natalia Ginzburg, in the light of unpublished documents found in the Archivo General de la Administración (Alcalá de Henares), in the Fondazione Giulio Einaudi (Turin) and in the Erich Linder’s collection of the Fondazione Arnoldo e Alberto Mondadori (Milan) that demonstrate the effort and tireless work of certain Spanish publishers when dealing with a tendentious and arbitrary censorship.
