description François Guérin was involved in the founding, at the turn of the 1960s/1970s, of the French-speaking school of ergonomics, based on the analysis of activity in work situations. ,Paul Bouffartigue and Julien Pelletier conducted on behalf of the NRT this interview, where he describes the conditions for the emergence of this current of action research , within the intellectual community set up by Alain Wisner. He explains how, through his own experience, this approach was able to feed the activities of the National Agency for the Improvement of Working Conditions. He mentions some of the developments that the agency experienced during the 1990s and 2000s – notably the way it engaged in the process of “negotiated modernisation” with companies, and in promoting the policies for reduced working hours – and the internal debates it generated.
