Summary:Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD) in the Russian Federation is the largest in terms of territory, it has a huge water resource potential, it is distinguished by a variety of natural and climatic zones, and it is a territory of advanced development. Th e socio-economic development of Far Eastern Federal District largely depends on both the availability and quality of water resources, and negative impact of water (fl oods, planned deformations of riverbeds, pollution of freshwater bodies and coastal marine areas caused by natural and anthropogenic factors); from solving interstate issues of protection and use of transboundary water bodies. Th e article presents the results of research by Far Eastern Branch of the RosNIIVKh (DalNIIVKh), aimed at solving the problems of effective water management in Far Eastern Federal District.
