It leads to increased adverse outcomes such as increased risks of falls, fractures, postoperative complications, disability and increased mortality.2 It is associated with many chronic diseases such as heart failure, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes and cognitive impairment.2,4 The prevalence of sarcopenia is expected to dramatically increase in the next few decades, especially in ageing populations.6
