Summary:The following paper deals with the so called Singing Revolution in the Baltic states from 1986 to 1991. It examines the development of the independence movement including a background explanation. The main focus is put on the events in Estonia, but cross connections to those in Latvia and Lithuania are made as well. Furthermore  the role of Mikhail Gorbachev’s Perestroika is discussed.
