Study of Th1/Th2 cytokine balance status in patients with generalized pruritus
The production of interleukin-4, interleukin-6 and interferon-γ in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of generalized pruritus patients and normal controls after PHA stimulation in vitro were measured by ELISA methods. | Summary: | The production of interleukin-4, interleukin-6 and interferon-γ in peripheral blood mononuclear cells of generalized pruritus patients and normal controls after PHA stimulation in vitro were measured by ELISA methods. The results showed the production of Th2 cytokine (interleukin-4) were significantly increased in PBMC of generalized pruritus patients compared with normal controls (P< 0.05). In contrast, the production of Th1 cytokine (interferon-γ) in patients with generalized pruritus was significantly lower than in normal controls (P<0.05), whereas no significant difference in interleukin-6 production was found between patients with generalized pruritus and normal controls (P> 0.05). The pruritus score scale in patients was positively correlated with its PBMC's interleukin-4 production, but negatively correlated with interferon-γ prodution (P<0.05). |
