Summary:Special education is defined as the process of educating students in a way that provides accommodations that address their differences, disabilities, and special needs. Generally speaking, this process requires individually planned and systematically monitored teaching procedures, adjusted equipment and materials, and accessible settings. Nowadays, growing attention is being to paid to people with special needs. The study examines the issue of educating people with special needs. The paper presents the quantative representation of persons with disabilities showing disability groups in Russia, age and gender composition of persons with disabilities in the Volga Federal district has been analyzed. The issues of education and employment of persons with special needs have also been assessed.  The health self-evaluation has been studied as well.
