Description
Summary:Tourism represents one of the most frequent and recurring opportunities for the production of intercultural exchanges. The resulting sociocultural shock, however, is not without impact on host societies, often leading to the acceleration of acculturation phenomena. Thus, the challenges for countries benefiting from international tourism sometimes lie in the protection of their cultural heritage and the maintenance of their identity. Paradoxically, this same tourism can promote the emergence of heritage awareness among locals and thereby encourage processes of material and/or intangible heritage recognition. In this contribution, we have chosen to analyze the intangible heritage of the medina of Fez through the evolution of the functioning of its craft guilds.
