Summary:The article is devoted to the position of Russia in the modern «world-system», society today is undergoing revolutionary changes that have led to the fact that the Russian Federation has been facing a number of challenges: the reorganization of the state, gaining a new identity, a new positioning in the world. It is shown that the components of the new identity is a long tradition of a strong state, "the Imperial myth", the Soviet experience, the European socio-cultural patterns and dualistic perception of the public practice of the United States. The characteristics of a "centre of power", which form the blocks configuration of the contemporary multipolar world are analysed. Considered Russia's position in it, as one of the "centers of power" is considered.
