| description | In this study we attempt a contrastive analysis of the two nobility diplomas granted to Nicolaus Olahus in 1548 and 1558, by Ferdinand I. The two documents contain essential information, sometimes unique, related to the humanist’s family, represented in the miniatures of the first diploma, which have sparked the interest of both historians and authors of genealogies. A philological analysis, based on the comparison between the two texts, illustrates Ferdinand I’s changes in attitude towards Olahus, the remarkable rise of the humanist to the top of the diplomatic and ecclesiastical hierarchy, due to his deep involvement in the political and confessional life of the Holy Roman Empire. |
