Summary:This article contains partial data from a survey conducted in 2010 and financed by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES, in order to analyze the influence of Freirean popular education on intercultural education in the Brazilian context. It consists of a bibliographic search, which is based on the reading of the Paulo Freire's works and authors who deal with popular education, as well as issues of interface with the topic studied. In this article I bring to the study the Paulo Freire's popular education focusing on the concepts of culture and interculturality, underlining his contribution for the construction of intercultural education in Brazil.
