Description
Summary:Gas chromatographic analysis of fatty acid methyl esters (GC-FAME), Biolog (computer aided numeric taxonomy method) and other tests were used for identification of 16 antagonistic bacteria against damping-off of cucumber seedlings. The results from GC-FAME, Biolog and other tests indicated that the dominant species were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus brevis, then Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, B. polymyxa, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Agrobacterium radiobacter and some other isolates showed antagonism which need to be identified. Comparison of the results on identification by both methods GC-FAME and Biolog: 14 of 16 antagonistic bacteria showed the same at genus level obtained from two methods, the proportion about 87.5%; then 7 were in species, at 42.75%. GC-FAME and Biolog provide rapid and reliable approaches for identification of some bacteria. However, complementary methods are needed for identification of some bacteria such as B. subtilis, due to insufficient database.
