description The thematization of sacrifice, although important in Adorno's work, is more often than not subjacent, developed indirectly and through the interpretation of the Odyssey. Our aim is to help reveal its modalities, its historicity and its stakes by comparing it with René Girard's mimetic theory, in which the conversion of the victim mechanism into sociogenetic sacrifice is decisive. After presenting the argument which posits sacrifice as a necessary form of violence, because of its social meaning, we return to the place of sacrifice in Girard's work before sketching out in which way this could clarify Adorno’s historicization and social recontextualization of it.
