| Summary: | Since the independence, the education was an area focused by the Chilean State. The National Institute, founded during the Patria Vieja, and then the University of Chile, created in year 1842, plays a key part in training of the republican elites, in the setting up of the science in Chile and in the spreading of the national values. In order to “give substance” to the institutions, the rationalization of the bureaucracy was launched by putting educative measures in place by the Chilean State. They allowed setting up criteria of skill and qualification to be used in the recruitment of state employees. Therefore, it makes the Republic governable. |
