Summary:Fenton iron sludge contains a significant amount of iron, alongside hard-to-degrade organic pollutants, sediments, pathogens, and heavy metals. If not managed properly, these constituents can cause secondary pollution and waste resources. This paper aims to comprehensively summarize the composition of Fenton iron sludge and explore its potential applications. It delves into the primary constituents of Fenton iron sludge and its reutilization in wastewater treatment. The focus lies on core techniques, merits, and drawbacks including direct reutilization, flocculant preparation, Fenton-like catalyst synthesis, adsorbent synthesis, and its application in anaerobic digestion for water treatment. Considering the adverse effects of hazardous substances during Fenton iron sludge reuse and its economic viability, as well as acknowledging its foundational role in water treatment, this study emphasizes that utilizing Fenton iron sludge in anaerobic digestion processes can enhance wastewater treatment efficiency while mitigating harmful substances within the sludge. This approach holds promise for achieving zero discharge of iron sludge and represents a crucial direction for future research.
