Description
Summary:In this study, we examined the level of parental characteristics, specifically parental skills and the coparenting relationship in the context of divorce. The research sample consisted of 228 parents: 125 parents from divorced families and 103 parents from intact (non-divorced) families. Parental skills and the quality of the coparenting relationship following divorce were assessed using two psychological instruments: Parental Stress Index - Fourth Edition (PSI-4) and the Parental Competence Investigation Questionnaire (PCQ). The research results revealed that divorced parents tend to exhibit lower levels of parental skills and experience more conflictual coparenting relationships compared to parents from intact families. Developing parental skills, adopting an appropriate parenting style, and fostering a cooperative relationship between the two parents, based on communication and collaboration in meeting the child’s, emerge as essential steps in post-divorce family adjustment.
