| Summary: | Caffeine consumption has increased significantly in recent years compared to global rates. This high-dose consumption is especially evident among athletes who believe consuming more caffeine is necessary for better physical performance. In addition, side effects associated with excessive daily doses of caffeine may appear more in athletes than others, depression being one of these side effects. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of caffeine on depression in athletes. According to research, if caffeine is consumed in acceptable amounts daily, it can increase motivation, vitality, and energy levels while also preventing depression in athletes. However, suppose consumption exceeds the recommended daily dose or reaches a level that causes symptoms similar to caffeine addiction. In this case, the side effects will far outweigh the benefits, and depression is a common issue. Finally, it can be concluded that athletes' addiction to coffee and caffeine may lead to depression-like symptoms over time. If their daily consumption is not controlled, it can contribute to depression in athletes. |
