IMPACT OF SOLID ANGLE AND TARGET MATERIAL ON THE ENERGY SPECTRUM MEASURED BY NAI(TL) SCINTILLATION DETECTORS

This study investigated the influence of solid angle variations and target material properties on the energy spectrum as detected by sodium iodide thallium-activated (NaI(Tl)) scintillation detectors. description This study investigated the influence of solid angle variations and target material properties on the energy spectrum as detected by sodium iodide thallium-activated (NaI(Tl)) scintillation detectors. Using Cobalt-60 (60Co) as a radiation source, the solid angle and thickness of the intervening materials (aluminum and lead) were systematically altered. The results showed a 15% decrease in the net area and a 20% decrease in the gross area with increasing solid angle. The energy resolution declined by 10% and the peak-to- valley ratio deteriorated by 25% at wider angles. These findings provide crucial insights into optimizing scintillation detection se- tups for improved accuracy in radiation measurements, which is essential for applications in medical imaging, industrial radiogra- phy, and nuclear physics.
