The Practice of Chess Players as a Socio-Cultural Expression for Research in Ethnomathematics – A Proposal in Development

Mathematical modelling and ethnomathematics are currently two topics that generate great interest in the research area of mathematics education, which is reflected in the growing number of scientific studies that deal with those topics in the last 10 years. description Mathematical modelling and ethnomathematics are currently two topics that generate great interest in the research area of mathematics education, which is reflected in the growing number of scientific studies that deal with those topics in the last 10 years. Also, with the incorporation of modelling in the curriculum from a socio-cultural perspective and the need to incorporate mathematical modelling in initial teacher training, the aim of this research proposal is to show the ethnomodels of chess players, which can be incorporated into initial teacher training, in such a way as to broaden the teaching processes in the classroom. The methodology used will be a qualitative-ethnographic approach, developed in three stages: selection of the chess players, application of semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis of the data. It is expected to find some ethnomodels related to the precondition in the activity developed by the chess players, and thus, to propose learning situations that can be incorporated into the initial teacher training.
