| Summary: | O artigo tem como intuito expor e localizar historicamente as motivações e esforços de Bertrand Russell para definir a função dos denominados conceitos denotativos em sua obra, Principles of Mathematics, com sua teoria e base filosófica. Mostraremos que os conceitos denotativos são modificados em escritos posteriores e por fim, descartados em seu artigo de 1905, On Denoting – havendo, neste artigo, substanciais alterações em sua Teoria das descrições, devido a uma mudança de posição filosófica – com o exemplo crítico (tida por muitos como controversa e confusa) conhecido como o exemplo da Elegia de Gray, onde buscaremos explicitar suas motivações e interpretações.
The paper aims to expose and historically locate Bertrand Russell's motivations and efforts to define the function of the so-called denotative concepts in his work, Principles of Mathematics, within its theory and philosophical basis. We will show that the denotative concepts are modified in later writings and finally discarded in his 1905 article, On Denoting – with, in this paper, substantial changes in his theory of descriptions, due to a change in your philosophical position – with criticism (considered by many as controversial and confusing) known as Gray's Elegy, where we aims to explain your motivations and interpretations.
