| Summary: | Data protection in the robotics and drone age must be included for an overhaul as technology evolves and offers new ways that could make current laws obsolete. This paper focuses on showcasing weak points in data protection laws that are generally seen in states such as the ones that comprise the European Union or in the United States of America, which could also be seen in other states, while also analyzing some solutions that have been implemented. To identify the key issues, the paper will take into account major incidents that took place regarding breaches of data privacy, while also trying to distinguish how international law is applicable. Drones come equipped with different types of equipment that must comply with different sets of rules and regulations, but can hardware alone prevent breaches of data protection or should operators and manufacturers be liable for these breaches? Furthermore, the issue at hand should also be covered with regards to a growing segment of drones that come equipped with artificial intelligence. Notwithstanding, the paper will analyze if counter-drone systems could help mitigate data protection breaches or rather if they generate an extra issue that lawmakers and manufacturers have to handle. |
