description In the paper, the author discusses the Middle Palaeolithic workshop sites on raw material sources and bifacial production in the north-western Caucasus. Five Middle Palaeolithic camp-workshop-type sites located directly on raw material sources are known in the region, including Monasheskaya and Barakaevskaya caves, and open-air sites of Hadjoh-2, Besleneevskaya-1, and, probably, Il'skaya II. These all are multi-layered sites located directly on raw material sources. Two different types of camp-workshops were defined: active habitation camp-workshops and short-term camp-workshops, which are characterized by specific features. Besides the presence of tool forms that have analogies in the local Micoquian assemblages, these sites show similar technological peculiarities characteristic to local Micoquian, such as the non-Levallois, non-laminar, and non-faceted flaking technology.
