Description
Summary:This article describes from an ethnographic perspective the legalization process of medicinal cannabis in Colombia. The story connects several agents and scales. It is related to the emergence of cannabis science and the effects of anthropic agency on prohibited plants. It shows how, thanks to the Internet and the international seed trade, Colombian gardeners created small laboratories to manufacture oils, tinctures, extracts, ointments and other preparations in which, according to them, marijuana acts in a holistic way. These growers were associated with groups of caregivers and patients with chronic and congenital diseases successfully treated with cannabis. This alliance has been of great importance to consolidate the process of moral and symbolic purification that transformed the current pharmacopoeia, establishing a large and promising market that the pharmaceutical industry seeks to monopolize.
